LCMS president and Anglican Church in North America official participate in Fort Wayne, Ind., forum
ST. LOUIS—October 26, 2011—The Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison, president of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS), will be one of the speakers at the “Contemporary Issues Facing the Church in North America” forum Oct. 27-28 at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind.
The event will be the third installment of a four-part dialogue between the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) and the LCMS. The two church bodies began dialogue in 2010.
The two Christian church bodies are not partner churches. But their representatives have been affirming and supporting one another in areas related to natural law as it pertains to some societal and ecclesial trends such as traditional families, adoption by homosexuals, the ordination of practicing homosexuals and the inspiration of Scripture.
An open forum is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, in Sihler Auditorium on the seminary campus, 6600 N. Clinton St. The event is free and open to the public. It also will be streamed live online at www.ctsfw.edu. (Click the Watch Live! link.)
Also scheduled to speak at the forum is Rev. Dr. Jonathan Riches, Associate Professor of Liturgics, Reformed Episcopal Seminary, Blue Bell, Pa.
Harrison hopes the dialogue with the ACNA will help strengthen and encourage credal and evangelical Christians in these last dark days. “It is refreshing to discuss with people who are credal, evangelical and believe the Bible,” he said.
Harrison will be speaking about the opportunities and challenges for traditional, orthodox Christianity, particularly that of confessional Lutheranism.
The final session of the four-part dialogue between the ACNA and the LCMS has not yet been scheduled.
