Rev. Jonathan and Anita Clausing

Serving the Lord in Eastern Africa

Bio

Rev. Jonathan and Anita Clausing serve the Lord as missionaries through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) in Eastern Africa, based in Tanzania. Jonathan serves as a theological educator at St. Peter Theological Seminary in Himo, Tanzania, teaching a variety of courses in multiple departments.

Jonathan was born in Belvidere, Ill., where Immanuel Lutheran Church, his home congregation, is located. He grew up on the family farm outside of town and received a bachelor’s degree in agricultural studies from Iowa State University, Ames. He received his Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. Before serving in Tanzania, Jonathan taught for a year and a half at Neema Lutheran College in Matongo, Kenya. Prior to becoming an LCMS missionary, he served for 11 years as the director of campus ministry at Lutheran High School of St. Charles County, St. Peters, Mo. In his free time, Jonathan enjoys long-distance running.

Anita was born in Aurora, Ill., and her home congregation is Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church and School, Yorkville, Ill. She received a bachelor’s degree in secondary education, along with her Director of Christian Education certificate, from Concordia University, Nebraska, Seward. Before heading to the mission field, Anita served as program director at Lutheran Valley Retreat, Woodland Park, Colo. Since 1999, she has been a stay-at-home mom, homeschooling their children. She enjoys sewing. Jonathan and Anita have nine children — Emil, Ellie, Ernie, Eunice, Ethan, Eric, Eileen, Elijah and Emmanuel. Emil, their oldest child, works for Concordia University Chicago, River Forest, Ill.; Ellie and Ernie both attend Concordia University Nebraska, Seward, Neb.; and their other six children are with them on the mission field.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose, when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution toward another aspect of ministry that aligns closely the contributor’s goals and values. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.

Consistent with Synod Board policy and in recognition of a more challenging economic and philanthropic/fundraising environment due to inflationary pressure, not more than 13.5 percent of any charitable contribution will be allocated to administering gifts and communicating with contributors. Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
