Samuel Borgwardt

Serving the Lord in the Asia region — Regional Business Manager

Bio

Samuel Borgwardt serves the Lord as a missionary in the Asia region, based in Chiayi, Taiwan. As regional business manager, he works closely with the regional director to manage the financial and business affairs of the LCMS in this part of the world. Samuel’s duties also include providing vital behind-the-scenes support that enables LCMS missionaries to carry out their callings, as well as creating, implementing and managing programs, projects and systems that improve organizational capability and efficiency.

Samuel’s hometown is Hudson, Wis., where he is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He received his B.A. in Asian Languages and Literatures from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. He also holds an M.A. in Asia-Pacific Studies from National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan, and an MBA in International Business from Avila University, Kansas City, Mo.

Prior to becoming a missionary, he worked in several roles that included providing translation and coordination services to help U.S. companies communicate with their partners in Asia. In his free time, Samuel enjoys reading, lifting weights and studying Lutheran theology. He has previously volunteered with the Sunday school and vacation Bible school programs at his church and led a Bible study.

Prayers

Pray for Samuel and the mission of the LCMS throughout the world. Ask God to keep him healthy — both physically and spiritually — as he serves the Synod’s missionaries and church partners. Pray also that God would use him to share the Gospel through his daily interactions, that many more people would come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Let us give thanks to God that Samuel is serving His children in this part of the world.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose, when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution toward another aspect of ministry that aligns closely the contributor’s goals and values. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.

Consistent with Synod Board policy and in recognition of a more challenging economic and philanthropic/fundraising environment due to inflationary pressure, not more than 13.5 percent of any charitable contribution will be allocated to administering gifts and communicating with contributors. Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
