Deaconess Melissa Pflug

Regional Care Coordinator

Serving the Lord in Eurasia

Bio

Deaconess Melissa Pflug serves the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) as a missionary in the Eurasia region, based in Romania. As regional care coordinator, she works with the Eurasia regional leadership team to ensure that all the Synod’s missionaries and their family members are supported during their service. This care includes warmly welcoming new missionary families to the field; providing logistical support for families in finding housing, schools and trusted health care providers; and assisting them with the visa process. The goal of the regional team is to ensure the safety and well-being of all missionary families so that they may joyfully carry out their service.

Melissa was born in Belleville, Ill., but later lived in Missouri and Nebraska before settling in her hometown, Madison, Ind. Faith Lutheran Church, Madison, is her home congregation. Melissa has a bachelor’s degree in English and Germanic Studies from Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) and a master’s degree in Deaconess Studies from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne (CTSFW). She was the coordinator for the first World Language Festival at IUB and later worked as communications specialist for International Admissions. Her love for learning languages led her to Germany and Spain, where she spent a decade working first as an English instructor and finally as a trademark paralegal for a law firm in Madrid. During her studies at CTSFW, she had the great joy of teaching Sunday school for St. Augustine Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. In her free time, Melissa enjoys hiking, swimming, and enjoying local music and art.

Prayers

Pray for Melissa as she serves in Eurasia and ask God to give her health and safety. Pray also for the current and future missionaries in the region, that God would build them up in His wisdom, love and mercy. Finally, pray that the Holy Spirit would work in the hearts of all those in Eurasia so that God’s kingdom on earth would grow and many would be saved. Give thanks to God that Melissa is serving His children in this part of the world.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose, when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution toward another aspect of ministry that aligns closely the contributor’s goals and values. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.

Consistent with Synod Board policy and in recognition of a more challenging economic and philanthropic/fundraising environment due to inflationary pressure, not more than 13.5 percent of any charitable contribution will be allocated to administering gifts and communicating with contributors. Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
