Becky Bartelt

Sacred Music Educator   •   Serving the Lord in Taiwan

Bio

Becky Bartelt serves the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) in Asia, based in Taiwan. In her role as a sacred music educator, she assists church partners in the region in developing Lutheran hymnals in other languages. She also coordinates music programs in local congregations for the edification of the church and as an outreach to people in the community.

Becky was born in Council Grove, Kansas, and her home congregation is Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lincoln, Neb. She has a B.A. in German and music education from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn.; an M.A. in music education from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn.; and an M.A. in theology from Concordia University Irvine, Irvine, Calif. Before serving in Taiwan, Becky served as an LCMS volunteer missionary in Kazakhstan (1997–1998), as a music teacher in India (1998–2003) and Germany (2003–2005), and most recently as a music teacher in Lutheran schools in Texas (2005–2019) and Nebraska (2019–2022). Over the years, she also has served as a choir director and a women’s Bible study leader. In her free time, she enjoys reading and music.

Prayers

Pray for Becky as she serves in Taiwan. Ask God to give her peace and patience as she adjusts to a new language, a new culture and a new way of working. Pray that the Lord would open up opportunities for her to use her gifts in service to the church in both Taiwan and in other Asian countries. Ask God also to open the hearts of those she meets to hear the Gospel and come to know the Savior, Jesus Christ. Let us give thanks that Becky is serving God’s children in this part of the world.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose, when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution toward another aspect of ministry that aligns closely the contributor’s goals and values. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.

Consistent with Synod Board policy and in recognition of a more challenging economic and philanthropic/fundraising environment due to inflationary pressure, not more than 13.5 percent of any charitable contribution will be allocated to administering gifts and communicating with contributors. Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
