Kate Phillips

Serving the Lord in the Dominican Republic

Bio

Deaconess Kate Phillips serves the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) as a missionary in the Dominican Republic. As coordinator of care in the Latin America and the Caribbean region, Kate serves with the region’s chaplain and leadership team to care and advocate for missionaries and their families in all aspects of their physical, spiritual and emotional health.

Kate grew up near Annapolis, Md., and received a B.S. in mathematics and a B.A. in chemistry from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, before receiving her M.A. in deaconess studies from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind. She has worked as the education director and center director at the Mathnasium of Annapolis, Md., and in recent years has been serving as a deaconess and teacher at Lutheran schools in Texas and Alabama. Her home congregation is St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cullman, Ala.

As part of her studies, Kate served as a deaconess intern in the Dominican Republic from 2019–2021, and she has been on two short-term mission trips: one to the Dominican Republic and one to Taiwan. In her free time, Kate enjoys cooking, ballet, reading, going on walks, and spending time with family and friends.

Prayers

Pray for Kate as she serves in the Latin America and the Caribbean region. Ask the Lord to use Kate to serve and care for the missionaries and their families in the region. Pray that the Holy Spirit would work in the hearts of all those in Latin America so that God’s kingdom would grow and many would be saved. Give thanks to God that Kate is serving His people in this part of the world.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose, when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution toward another aspect of ministry that aligns closely the contributor’s goals and values. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.

Consistent with Synod Board policy and in recognition of a more challenging economic and philanthropic/fundraising environment due to inflationary pressure, not more than 14 percent of any charitable contribution will be allocated to administering gifts and communicating with contributors. Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
