Rev. Dr. Kevin E. Voss Biography

The Rev. Dr. Kevin E. Voss became director of the Concordia Bioethics Institute and assistant professor of philosophy at Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon, Wis., in August 2003.
From 1981 to 1995, Voss was in private practice in Northeast Wisconsin as a dairy veterinarian, with a focus on reproductive medicine. Because of allergies and a willingness to serve the Lord in the pastoral ministry, he left practice to earn a Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in 1999.
Voss holds a Ph.D. in health care ethics from St. Louis University (SLU), which will give him two doctoral degrees. The title of his dissertation is: "Religious Beliefs and Reproductive Counseling Practices of Clergy." Voss has earned two specialized certificates during his doctoral program at SLU. He received the Certificate of Empirical Research Methods in descriptive ethics and a certificate in university teaching skills.
Publications include: "Conflict between Families and Providers: Avoiding Treatment Disputes," Health Care Ethics USA, 2003; "Online Peer Commentary: One Field, Many Disciplines, One Goal," American Journal of Bioethics, fall 2002; and "Science: The Truth and Hype About Stem Cells" in In the Beginning: A Collection of Essays and Bible Studies on the Sanctity of Early Human Life, LCMS Sanctity of Life Committee, 2007.
Voss has served on the executive committee for the Center for Health Care Ethics and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of Washington University in St. Louis. He is currently a member of the Columbia-St. Mary's Ozaukee Hospital Ethics Committee, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s Sanctity of Life Committee and the Institutional Review Boards of Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital System and Concordia University Wisconsin.
Voss is a native of Brillion, Wis. In 1982, he married his wife, Kaye. They have two grown children, Rachel and Ryan. Both are interested in pursuing careers in health care.
