Africa Regional Mission Projects
Africa Regional Outcome Development
The countries within which LCMS World Mission works in Africa constitute a land mass roughly twice the size of the United States, not including Alaska and Hawaii. LCMS World Mission serves God’s mission in Africa not only through LCMS missionaries, but also by supporting other Lutheran church bodies in their mission efforts. In this way, the resources given to LCMS World Mission are maximized and God’s Word is proclaimed even in the places of crisis that LCMS missionaries cannot be physically present but where these church bodies remain. Regional outcome development projects enable the regional director, regional business manager, mission support coordinator, projects coordinator and communication specialist to build and maintain relationships and coordinate the many mission efforts. Your support of this work will not only fund the extensive travel necessary to continue our partnership with African Lutheran church bodies, but will also provide limited research fellowships to African Lutheran leaders so that they may visit other African Lutheran church bodies to observe, learn and be a part of the larger community of Christ. In this way, they are encouraged and bring new ways of looking at mission to their own church bodies.
Africa Area Mutual Mission Outcome Development
Each LCMS World Mission designated area of Africa—East Africa, Anglophone West Africa, Francophone West Africa, Central Africa and Southern Africa—encompasses an area almost half the size of the continental United States. The context of Africa makes project planning through the budget process a challenge as situations change rapidly. Additionally, African cultures have a tendency to focus on a strong past and present, and a weak future. Short-term agricultural consultancies help churches in these areas become more self-sufficient and self-sustaining. Your support will allow LCMS World Mission area facilitators to react rapidly to change, needs and opportunity though mission partner church bodies, when in accord with mission objectives and outcomes. It will also enable agricultural consultants to gather local farmers so that they can learn better methods of farming, in line with biblical principles of resource management.
Africa Field Administration and Short-Term Mission Coordinator
In a large field such as Africa, in which there are many LCMS entities serving through short-term mission events, church partners cannot facilitate or provide for all the needs of short-term missionaries. They need someone who understands the local culture to help them negotiate the uncertainties of being in mission in Africa and help them with logistics and relationships. Your support will help to provide facilities in several areas of Africa that can serve as a base of operations and transportation costs for the mission coordinator.
