Who is eligible to serve as an International Educator?
A: Any Christian with an active faith life and teacher certification is encouraged to apply to become an International Educator. Non-rostered Lutherans and non-Lutherans educators will be encouraged to take the colloquy so they might receive a call.
What is a Colloquy?
A: The colloquy is an 18-hour, online theological program which prepares an educator to receive a call from the LCMS.
If I am already a Lutheran trained and rostered educator, will I receive a call as an International Educator?
A: Yes. Once you have received an offer of employment from an International School you will receive an official call.
Will my overseas call impact my participation in the Concordia Plan Services benefits?
A: Nothing will change for you with respect to the Concordia Plan Services benefits.
For how long is the call extended?
A: An International Educator call is employment based. Teachers work on a two-year, rolling contract. As long as you have a current contract, your call continues.
Will I be able to witness for my faith?
A: Yes. Serving as an International Educator is an unique ministry. International Schools are seeking highly qualified educators with an active faith life who are willing to witness as well as respect those from diverse cultures and faiths.
If I am interested in serving in this unique ministry as an International Educator, what are my next steps?
A: There are several steps you can take.
- First, review the position openings to see if there are current vacancies in area (s) of your certification. View all the International Education opportunities.
- Second, if there are openings and you know that you would like to serve you can go directly to the International School’s website and complete an application. Or, you can contact LCMS World Mission’s Recruitment Services personnel directly at mission.recruitment@lcms.org.
