Jonathan and Rachel Mumme,
Serving the Lord in the United Kingdom

Bio

Jonathan & Rachel MummeRev. Dr. Jonathan and Deaconess Rachel Mumme serve the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod as missionaries, based in Cambridge, England, United Kingdom. Jonathan serves as the assistant pastor at Resurrection Lutheran Church and as a tutor for systemic and historical theology at Westfield House. As a tutor, he helps educate British, African, Scandinavian and European students, as well as welcoming exchange students from both LCMS seminaries and several Concordia universities. (Westfield House is the theological house of studies for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of England.) Rachel develops communications materials for Westfield House, helps recruit new students, expands the Friends of Westfield House network, and works with deaconess students who are studying there.

Jonathan’s hometown is South Branch Township of St. James, Minn., and Rachel grew up in Wheaton, Ill. The Mummes’ home congregation is St. John Lutheran Church, Wheaton, Ill. Jonathan holds a B.A. in theological languages and English from Concordia University Chicago and an M.Div. from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. He is currently completing his Th.D. from the University of Tuebingen in Germany. Rachel earned a B.A. in theology and deaconess studies from Concordia University Chicago and a M.A. in Christian Outreach from Concordia University, St. Paul, Minn. She has previously served as a deaconess at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Brookfield, Wis. (2000-2005), and as a deaconess, first in St. Louis and then deployed in Germany, with LCMS World Relief and Human Care (2005-2011). In his free time, Jonathan enjoys hiking, reading, working out and travel, while Rachel’s hobbies include cooking, baking, travel, hiking, reading and music. Their daughter, Miranda, joined the family in August 2011.

Prayers

Please pray for Jonathan and Rachel as they serve in the United Kingdom. Pray for a smooth transition to life in Cambridge—that it would feel like home—and that they would both effectively and joyfully carry out their vocations. The Mummes ask for prayers for Rachel as she begins these new work duties, as well as starting out as a new mom and pastor’s wife, and for the health and growth of their baby. Pray that through the Holy Spirit, Jonathan would be an asset to Westfield House’s heritage of faithfulness to the Lutheran confession of faith and the outstanding educational quality it provides. Finally, pray for Jonathan’s faithfulness and ardor in his role as assistant pastor at Resurrection.
