Sean and Hanna McHugh

Regional Business Manager

Serving the Lord in Eurasia

Bio

Sean and Hanna McHugh serve the Lord as missionaries through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) in Eurasia, based in Brașov, Romania. As regional business manager, Sean works closely with the regional director to manage the financial and business affairs of the LCMS in Eurasia. These duties include providing behind-the-scenes support for LCMS missionaries, as well as creating, implementing and managing programs, projects and systems that improve organizational capability and efficiency.

Sean is from St. Louis, Mo., and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Des Peres, Mo., is the family’s home congregation. Sean has a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Missouri—Rolla in Rolla, Mo. He began his career as an engineer before transitioning to operations management and finally to domestic and international logistics. He is knowledgeable about global trade compliance, regulatory affairs, warehousing and distribution strategies, as well as developing and mentoring new leaders.

Hanna is originally from China, and she has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Xian Jiaotong University in Xian, China, and a master’s degree in statistics from the University of Texas at Austin. After moving to St. Louis, she worked as a data analyst.

Hanna was raised as an atheist but was curious about religion. She eventually became Lutheran after a friend shared the Gospel and prayed with her during a difficult time. Hanna later introduced Sean, who was raised Catholic, to the Lutheran church, where he found answers to many of his questions. In January 2025, the McHughs attended a marriage retreat sponsored by St. Paul’s, which ignited their desire to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with others.

Prayers

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose, when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution toward another aspect of ministry that aligns closely the contributor’s goals and values. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.

Consistent with Synod Board policy and in recognition of a more challenging economic and philanthropic/fundraising environment due to inflationary pressure, not more than 14 percent of any charitable contribution will be allocated to administering gifts and communicating with contributors. Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
